Yuletide Applications are Now Available

YOU ARE INVITED TO APPLY FOR:

 Yuletide 2012

         November 15-17, 2012

SPONSORED BY THE SPOKANE ART SCHOOL

YULETIDE 2012   Yuletide is the SAS’s fun, holiday indoor event of fine arts and crafts.  Yuletide will be held at the MAC in the two classrooms, the Gilkey Room, and hallways on two levels.  Booth space is available for up to 30 artists.  The event will open on Thursday noon, November 15 and will continue through Saturday, November 17.  That weekend will be regular Campbell House and gallery hours, so we are anticipating festive crowds.  (For information about the MAC visit its website at northwestmuseum.org. Yuletide will end its event Saturday at 4:30 pm with Artist Awards, this year of $50 in cash or equivalent each for “People’s Choice” and “Artists’ Choice.”

ART AND CRAFT WORKS   Yuletide seeks high quality, original, individually produced works that display consistent craftsmanship.  Acceptable media include ceramics, paintings, prints, drawings, mixed media, photographs, jewelry, glass, woodwork, specialty food items, sculpture, and fiber arts.   In addition, we are looking for seasonal holiday items such as cards, wreaths, menorahs, wrapping paper, clothing, toys, candles, soap, and ornaments.  We will accept nothing made from kits or commercial molds, or with the help of an instructor.  Although there are some sales of work over $200 for an item at Yuletide, the bulk of sales occur between $20 - $50.  Think about your own gift giving to friends and family in considering your Yuletide sales strategy.

ARTIST SELECTION   Both new artists and established artists are encouraged to apply.  Artists will be juried on the basis of digital images of their work.  The jury will select participants representing a balanced variety of media.  DIGITAL images and application must be received by Friday, September 7, 2012, to be considered.  Jury results will be sent before or by Friday, October 5, 2012, along with more detailed information.

OPERATIONS and FINANCIAL INFORMATION   For Yuletide 2012 participating artists will pay a flat booth fee of $200, due upon your acceptance.  There are no other commissions or added fees.  It is acceptable for two artists to share a booth (and expenses and booth tending) by submitting their images as one application.  SAS reserves the right to reproduce accepted images for advertising purposes. Artists must have a current city business license and are responsible for collecting sales tax. SAS will advertise for the event through mailings, newspaper and media as well as email the Yuletide announcement to participating artists to send to their customers.  Booths must be manned by artists or their representatives throughout the event.  Yuletide volunteers will help direct customer traffic, booth-sit, sell raffle tickets, and other things throughout the event.  There will be a security guard on duty, and the building will be locked at night.  Yuletide is free to the public, but the galleries and Campbell House are subject to the MAC’s admission fee.  Free parking is available in the MAC garage and on the street.  Beyond our costs, proceeds from the Yuletide event will directly support SAS educational programs.

DEADLINE   Applications must reach us no later than 5:00 PM on Friday, September 7, 2011.  Applications may be mailed or hand delivered to the Spokane Art School 809 W. Garland Ave.  Please refer to the next page for complete mailing or hand delivery details.
