All in the Family: Clay & Paint with Gordon Wilson and Angelika Wilson-Wipp

All in the Family: Clay & Paint
Gordon Wilson & Angelika Wilson-Wipp
April 1 - May 28, 2016

Mermaids, angels, goats, donkeys and other creatures populate the Spokane Art School Gallery.  The interaction of humans and animals in parables and fables has much to say about the human condition.  These visual stories challenge the viewer to discover hidden meanings behind the imagery.  As an artist couple, we have an appreciation for what animals can teach us and their narrative potential in our artworks.

"Rural Patinas" Watercolor Workshop with Ken Spiering

Join us for two sessions of watercolor painting in the rural setting of old farm equipment, an old barn, a wide variety of foliage including very old apple trees, with a mature artist on the ol’ Palouse!  Ken offers his studio and property for this two day workshop, Friday May 27th, 6 – 9 and May 28th, 8:30 – 4:00. For the watercolor enthusiast with some experience painting, this workshop will focus on the compositional structure of a good painting and making your watercolors dynamic through manipulating focus, color intensity and value contrast.  Friday evening will be about some get acquainted time, a watercolor demonstration, discussion and questions and answers throughout.  Saturday will be plein aire painting, individual instruction and gentle personal critiques throughout the day, with a group sharing at the conclusion.  Bring a sack lunch for Saturday, some snacks will be provided.

The impact of the Artreach program at Crosswalk

The reach of art in the lives of young people at Crosswalk is more of an embrace.

Young people gather around a table, begin a project; their created book, their personal canvas and soon the individual project transcends; becoming a collective event, establishing community, creating similarity of conversation.

The atmosphere changes becomes expressive; the colors, the symbols, the words… evolve.
The room brightens, time is forgotten.

The pulse of the room strengthens and slows, it’s Wednesday afternoon at Crosswalk, there’s hope.
