Children

 

Abstract Animal Rain Stick                                                  
If you love mask making this is a class for you! Students will explore paint and drawing abstract animals. Create a supper cool mask and then turn it into a colorful, original Rain Stick!

 

Color Your World                                                                                       
Put down the eraser and be free! Mistakes are the tricks that help us figure out our own kooky, crazy, artistic “style”. So, get out your imagination and get ready to explore the artist in you!

 

Let’s Paint                                                                                                       
Come in and create a fun project and finish it up with paint. We will explore color mixing, drawing and look at the art of someone famous!          

 

Acrylic Painting                                                                           
An introduction to the highly forgiving, versatile medium of acrylic paint.

 

Basic Book Binding                                                    
Basic book binding will show you many ways to bind paper or other materials into a book or scroll or just something fun to peer into like a tunnel book. You can bind unique books of collected things or family histories or photo albums or calendars or personal journals or records or… it is fun to make blank books for friends too. You can also create a large number of things with the techniques of book binding such as slip covers, folios, boxes and much more.

 

Basic Drawing                                                                                               
An introduction to the skills of drawing for people who have not taken formal art classes and may need to attain confidence in their drawing skills.

 

Basic Mask Making                                                                    
Basic mask making will start you out with six ways of making masks you will make yourself. We will show you several dozen more masks from around the world in fun short slide shows. Masks have many uses from ritual to safety and we will talk about some of the ways masks are most commonly used and try our hand at masked reader’s theater

 

Create your own Graphic Novel                                                       
Students will learn basics of creating a graphic novel through visual storytelling, how to write dialogue and pace the script, character studies, visual research for costumes and places and props, pencils to inking and other ways to create the drawings, and perhaps most important, how to reach your audience.  

  

How to Create Picture Books                                                             
This class is adapted from my college level course filled with easy and surprising assignments that will have you creating picture books just for fun and maybe profit whether you think of yourself as an artist or a writer or both.

 

Oil Painting                                                                                    
The techniques and skills of the time-honored medium of oil painting.

 

Paper Cutting Workshop                                                                      
Learn the basics of paper cutting from folding to design.

 

Pop-Ups and Other Mechanical Paper Art                 
This class will give you basic Pop-Up skills and patterns to make your own Pop-Ups for cards or books or gifts for family and/or friends. Each week’s curriculum is unique and we will focus on different techniques.

 

Watercolor Improvisation                                                   
Sign up for the day you can come or sign up for as many as you like for the whole summer coming when you can but this painting experience ends August 20th though it may come again this fall.

This is a course for those of you who only want to experience the joy of painting without subject or plan but spontaneously with shapes of color and line and form. We choose watercolor as out medium because it can be so spontaneous. We will seek to live in the moment of painting, an active mediations, to discover the color of our feelings and the movement of our thoughts.
