Drawing the Human Hand
$30 + $5 model fee
Saturday, January 19, 10 am to 2 pm
The hand is often the most difficult part of the human
body for the artist to master. In this workshop, we’ll cover the anatomy of the
human hand, including bones, muscles, and blood vessels. After drawing skeletal
hands, we’ll be drawing the hands of a model in different positions and
situations.

Painting Clouds in Oil
$30
Saturday, January 26, 10 am to 2 pm
We’ll discuss the different kinds of clouds and how
they behave under various light conditions, look at how the best artists paint
their clouds, have a demonstration of painting a typical cloud formation, and
practice painting clouds from photographs. For colors, students will need at
least white and the three primary colors, but I recommend that they bring as
many additional colors as they have. The painting surface should be
inexpensive, preferably a canvas panel or sheet of canvas paper.

Drawing Caricatures
$30
Saturday, February 2, 10 am to 2 pm
Caricature is an old and respected art form. It’s also
a lucrative sideline for a professional artist. In this workshop, we’ll discuss
the ways to exaggerate and simplify an individual’s distinctive features to
depict someone in a way that’s both funny and instantly recognizable. The
instructor has been drawing caricatures professionally for over 25 years, and
has learned to draw them both at leisure and under intense time pressure. He’ll
draw a caricature of each of the students, and they in turn will draw each
other and celebrities from the worlds of entertainment, politics and sports.
